It certainly won’t be as exciting as a trip to Orlando, at least not for the kids. But, a trip to the jewel of the Jersey Shore, Avalon, is a 
convenient trip for northeasterners who don’t want the expense of flying.
If you’ve never been to Avalon, you will not be disappointed. It’s pristine homes and colorful downtown make for an interesting beach vacation. The first thing you’ll notice about Avalon is how wide the main street of Dune Drive is. You’ll then drive through a quaint downtown area that has its Christmas lights up year round.
Summer days in Avalon are relaxing. When you leave your Avalon, New Jersey rental property in the morning, most families have breakfast at Uncle Bill’s Pancake House. Uncle Bill’s is an Avalon legend. If you think pancakes are just pancakes, you’ve never been to Uncle Bill’s.
After breakfast, families pack up for spending the day at the best beaches on the east coast. Think fine white sand that is groomed every evening. You won’t see such wide beaches anywhere in the east. Nor, will you see any dunes that are the size of those in Avalon; the dunes are simply spectacular.
There’s a bevy of activity at the beach. Beach volleyball is a favorite as is wiffle ball, horseshoes, paddleball, and frisbee. But, people being active is not the main attraction. Most are here to get a tan and people are relaxing on the beach with a book, working on their fantasy baseball team, or just listening to the seagulls and the waves.
At night, families will go out for dinner at one of the many restaurants in Avalon. There’s fine dining options and many other possibilities as well. The kids will love Sylvester’s where diners eat seafood outside next to the bay.
After dinner, play a round of miniature golf at Pirate Island, then have a delicious ice cream sundae at Avalon Freeze.
